A.R. Rahman, who has scored three tracks for Ravi Udyawar’s upcoming thrillerdrama, Mom, which features Sridevi as a distraught mother in search of her daughter (played by Pakistani-actress Sajal Ali), has now brought on-board Palestinian singer Sana Moussa for a unique background score for the film.
The Boney Kapoor production, which also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna, is expected to release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu and the soundtrack will feature in all three versions.
“Rahman always seeks out unique artists to collaborate with and had been planning to work with Sana on this film for the last six months,” reveals a source close to the development. Rahman, who first worked with acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi on his 2015 film Muhammad – The Messenger of God, and re-united with him for his next, Beyond the Cloud, which is set in Mumbai, had also been discussing the work of several other artists from the Middle-East before finalising Sana.
Sana, best known for tributes to Palestinian women’s folklore, uses indigenous musical traditions in her work. She will be flying down to Chennai soon to start work with the Mozart of Madras at his studio. The singer comes from a family of acclaimed Palestinian artists and studied the al-Armawi choir led by the famed Arab musician Khaled Jubran. She released her first album, Ishraq, in 2010, before embarking on a tour of Palestine, Jordan, and Cairo. In 2011, she performed for the first time in Israel’s prestigious sea-facing city of Haifa.
