Sridevi’s journey in the Indian film industry has been nothing short of spectacular. Having started off as a child artiste, the gorgeous actress’ cinematic offerings in a career spanning 50 years have always set benchmarks. And given that ‘Mom’ is her 300th film, it just had to be special.
Besides roping in powerhouse performers like Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna, director Ravi Udyawar has also brought on board award-winning composer AR Rahman. The soundtrack of ‘Mom’ comprises five songs, which have been penned by Irshad Kamil. The album is being touted as Rahman’s finest, with each number being distinct from the other.
While ‘O Sona Tere Liye’, sung by Rahman himself, has already become popular, not many know that he composed the song ‘Muafi Mushkil’ on his 50th birthday. After bringing in his big day, he went straight to the studio to start work on the song, making this one truly special. Rahman has also roped in Palestinian singer Sana Moussa for the album, on which he worked for over a year.
Ravi says, “Music and the background score play a very important role in this film. I wanted to rely on sounds to convey the emotions of my characters, to enhance the pause, to feel the lows and the highs. With acclaimed music director Rahman on board, I’m assured of speaking my scenes through music.” Rahman has also worked on the Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam versions of Mom as the film will release in these languages, too, owing to Sridevi’s popularity down South.
Producer Boney Kapoor enthuses, “What Rahman has managed to pull off is phenomenal. The music of ‘Mom’ is one of his finest works. It has taken the film to new heights and will move audiences every step of the way.” Bhushan Kumar sums up, “We are happy to present the music of ‘Mom’, which is a special collaboration of talent. We are excited to work on a project that brings legends like Sridevi and Rahman together.” ‘Mom’, produced by ZEE Studios, Sunil Manchanda, Naresh Agarwal, Mukesh Talreja, Gautam Jain and Boney Kapoor, releases on July 7 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.
