Music transcends language barriers. La Musica ft Kavya Ajit, an independent fusion cover of Spanish love song Cosiendome El Corazon by Thalia, and popular Tamil number Moongil Thottam from Kadal composed by A.R. Rahman has won the hearts of music lovers.
While Kavya Ajit’s soulful rendition soaks up the melancholy timbre of the original, the flowing music video captures some impressive visuals with backdrops of waterfalls, rubber plantations and fern thickets. But the best part turns out to be the violin solo at the end, composed and performed by Kavya herself.
The song, shot in the scenic locales of Mithirmala and near Kallara, was released on the eve of Valentine’s Day.
As someone interested in experimenting with medleys, Kavya says the fusion is not exactly “a replica” of the original but she “played with creativity” to lend it her own touch. “Though I don’t understand Spanish, I listen to a lot of Spanish songs and this one [Cosiendome] just happened. Moongil Thottam seemed to blend with it,” says Kavya, who recently crooned in Hey Don’t Worry Jude in Hey Jude.
Trained in Carnatic music and Western classical style of violin, Kavya has to her credit songs such as Ee Shishirakaalam from Jacobinte Swargarajyam and Agnijwalaa in the Malayalam dubbing of Sridevi-starrer Mom.
