Interested in joining the music school setup by Sir AR Rahman ? Then your dreams are not away. A R Rahman is all set to open the music school in January 2009.
He has acquired land for his dream project, near Chennai Airport and is planning to start the work very soon. Talking about the music school Rahman feels that the young talented musicians in our country, who want to learn Western classical music, have nowhere seriously creative to go. According to him, he need to cultivate a taste for Western symphonic music so that an average musically-inclined young musician would be as enthused about learning the violin as the star”
The land purchase puts Rahman’s dream plan into third gear. “We’ll soon be working round-the-clock. I want it to be one of the best music schools in our country.” adds Rahman . So make the fingers crossed, young singers and musicians! You are really going to be the next Rock star.
The auditions will be started at the end of this month and candidates are selected purely on the basis of talent and attitude. The admissions to A R Rahman school will be on June and fees are not yet finalized.

FAQ
What previous experience is required to apply?
An aptitude for music is all that is required to join in the Preparatory program, but the foundation and Bachelor’s Degree level is for serious professionals who are willing to take Music as a full time profession.
What does audition & interview process involve?
We will schedule an audition with the faculty, and you have to prepare 2 pieces of your choice to play or sing, showing a variety of style andability. If you have a live accompanist or accompaniment CD you are required to bring them. During the audition there will also be a short interview.
Is housing available for students?
Housing is not included in the tuition fees, however we can help you find housing and accommodation near the school.
How do I apply and schedule an audition?
If you are interested in applying and setting up an audition, please fill out the online enquiry in the Registration page. On receiving your enquiry, we will mail you the relevant details.
What is the cost of the Prospectus ?
The cost of the Prospectus is Rs.1,100/- which has to be paid as Demand Draft favoring KM Music Conservatory, payable at Chennai.
What are the deadlines?
The deadline to send in your application is 31st May. Auditions will be held during the month of June. The admission decision will be made by June 15th , and you will be notified shortly thereafter. The classes will commence on July, 16th.
Where are the Auditions held?
All Auditions will be held at the KM Music Conservatory in Chennai.
Do I need my own instrument?
Yes. Students are required to have their own instrument upon starting the program. If you do not already have an instrument, you may purchase one through the conservatory, which may be offered at a subsidized rate.
What other supplies do I need?
Students in the Bachelor Degree Program will be required to purchase an Apple laptop. Programs and software used in the curriculum are only compatible with Apple computers. These can also be purchased through the conservatory at subsidized prices. Students in the Foundation Program may also purchase laptops, however it is optional.
Are scholarships available?
Scholarships will be available to outstanding students, based on their financial need and an exemplary audition.

nothing much to say now u can get an idea from the above line that how much i respect for music.
i am a keyboardplayer and also giving performances on keyboard . also know to play guitar and many instruments such as pakhawaj(mrudang) tabla and djembe.taken basic training from local school of music and know to play western music as i have learn all the western exercises but the thing is that i had learn that in indian musical language. i can read indan notation but not the staff notation.
In addition i am taking a training in technical line as a recordist and also make a step ahed in audio programing .
but as u know that this all is not certified and i hv to be a certified persons
i had make many pieaces and my own compo as well as many mixes
having 2 yrs expi in recording line. now a days doing expirements on midi programing.

Sir I am 26 years old .I started learning to play the piano 4 years back and completed 6th grade theory and 6th grade practicals under a instructor who is affiliated with trinity college of music,london. I want to make music my career by first joining your institute. i have recorded a couple of videos of me playing the piano.it shows my abilities.the first song is a song named 6:00 by the band named dream theater and the second one “Ballade opus 23″ Chopin was played in the movie “the pianist”. i have also composed 2 jazz songs by ear and developed techniques to improve speed and performance.

i love music. i started going to carnatic classical when i was 9. completed juniour exam at the age of 13 or 14. But it so happened that i lost interest in carnatic classica!!! But then i again joined d music classes during my higher secondary education. Now i am 21,it’s been 5 years now still i am continuing the carnatic music. My teacher is from chennai, she is aged about 70, but a wonderful singer,teacher. she says my singing is good,but still i am not perfect she says and i agree.I really regret for what i did after i completed d junior exam, i regret my decision which was against my mother’s wish of me continuing the music.But sir, now i wish i should learn more music. i want to learn westrn classical,piano. At present i am doing a course on physics.

This is Vatsal Patel,23, from US. I finished my B.S. degree in 2008. I am now a second year medical student in CT, USA. I have always had interests in singing and sing modern songs with classical touch (I am not sure if semi-classical would be the right word for this). Due to life circumstances, I was never able to get any level of vocal or instrumental training despite my strong desire to get such training. I would like to know about various programs that might be available to someone like me at your school. I am a good learner and harsh critique of myself for whatever I pursue, which makes me an ideal student.
I am aware through the posts on this website that aptitude for singing is the major pre-requisite for entry into A. R. Rehman School of Music. However, I wonder whether its the natural aptitude or already well-trained voice that counts. Since this school holds so much prestige, I would like to know if it would be worth applying for someone with my level of training (none).
