So is anyone expecting another Taal ? Indeed don’t, because this musical score is extremely a different try from Rahman. Because Yuvvraaj is inspired in soul and element from European and Indian classical as well as Rahman’s exclusive library of imagination. After hearing the score, one can strongly say that all songs are strictly based on it script. If Ghai could give imaginative identity to the picturization of the songs, then a sure chart buster album is in the charts.

Main hoon Yuvvraaj

The soundtrack opens with Main hoon Yuvvraaj, designed as a dialog monologue in Salman Khan’s weird accent. The instrumentation of the song is based on 5th Beethoven Symphony performed by The Chennai String Orchestra. The track is nothing but to show Salman’s bad boy role in the movie.

Tu Meri Dost Hain

The track is elaborately layered with brilliant and appropriate usage of acoustic instruments. Its all over the top ! Benny Dayal gets his first Hindi lead playback song with Tu Meri Dost Hai. The song opens with a much expressive alaap which forms the base tune of the track and continues through out. Gulzar’s lyrics are simple yet classy and very much identifiable, giving an insight into the relationship shared by the two characters, Salman and Katrina. Shreya Ghoshal adds flowing like honey effect to the song while Rahman makes a late appearance only for a short portion. To conclude, pick of the album.

Shano Shano

The song is merely for disco floors. Sonu Nigam takes the lead singing followed by Srinivas, Karthik and Sunaina. The GenX track is not a very refreshing one. Just to be kept in mind is that the cinematography of the song will be superb and so it will definitely serve as a tension reliever on the movie and will ride over straight onto the discotheques. The remix version done by Ember is better than the original one.

Tu Muskura

This song is strongly based on Alka Yagnik’s soulful singing and it has only minimal musical arrangements with an effective tune. The track is a lyrical delight and has an amazingly haunting quality which gets better with every subsequent listen. Jashne bahara fame Javed Ali takes it off from where Alka Yagnik left to the main melody and gives a flawless classical alaap rendition towards the end and will definitely grab your attention with his portions. An absolute beauty with a ®ahman trademark™ all over.

Mastam Mastam

A lively track with so much of orchestration of singers all over. The music has tap-dancing arrangements with a perky and youthful chorus arranged. Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik does a spotless attempt at mouthing the tongue-twisters which was somewhat decent though. A better dance over the screen expected on this song with best combination of strings and percussions blended. A Standout track in the album.

Zindagi

In a recent review, I have read that this song is a Rahman’s tribute to M.S.Vishwanathan. Its indeed a wonderful tribute. A soft and sad number sung by Srinivas and the emotions are precisely spelled through words of Gulzar. This might be a situational track used in the background of the movie. The track is easily one of Yuvvraj’s and Rahman’s best compositions.

Dil Ka Rishta

Dil ka Rishta starts of with a loud orchestration and is seemingly conceived as a climax opera act comprising the three leads of the movie Salman, Anil and Zayed. Passion and Aggression lyrics along with the background keyboard and Roop Kumar Rathod’s voice doing the sargam gives the perfect opening to the song. The song has so many shades that it is simply difficult to classify it as a single composition. The most catching portion of the song is Rahman’s classical Hindustani ‘alaaps’ which is a real treat to the listeners and all Rahmaniacs. A rarely attempted fusion of symphony orchestra and Hindustani classical music is simply mesmerizing. Sonu Nigam takes over the vocals on the middle from Roop Kumar Rathod and is later joined by Clinton Cerejo, Suzanne, Vivienne, Naresh, Benny & Blaaze. Truly a world class composition and my favorite in the album.

Manmohini Morey

Manmohini morey by Vijay Prakash is an Indian Classical track, with violins playing Tu muskura in the background. Vijay Prakash was a Sa Re Ga Ma Pa contestant in 1999. He was one of the finest singers that time in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and reached till mega finals but never got recognized [ Usual happening of Reality Shows ]. Nice that Rahman spot him at the right time and give him the perfect song of its kind. Thom Thom Thana na rhythm is instantly catchy. A marvelous conclusion by the maestro to a brilliant album.

So to conclude Yuvvraaj is a musical treat to all the Rahman Fans. As Glam Sham mentioned, go and get this album, If you don’t get then even steal it. Now lets wait and watch that can Ghai do complete justice to all the tracks
