Rahman rocked Chennai with Changing note

Guitars, ghatams, tablas, trombones and trumpets played second fiddle to Ar Rahman on Sunday at the Times of India Changing Notes concert. Chennai’s most musical son performed for a 50,000-strong audience in his hometown after years. “I can’t remember the last time he performed live,” said one fan, keeping a wary eye on a policeman with a wicked-looking lathi. And Rahman himself started the show saying, “I haven’t heard sound and cheering like this in at least two years.”

Eager fans turned up on the St. George’s school grounds as early as 4 pm on Sunday evening, to “catch places” in the front rows. Shouts of “Rahman-Rah-Rah” filled the air and the excited audience waved posters, phootgraphs and sketches of Rahman. A bright green and red “Thank you Times of India” poster was waved around. Even the normally-staid VVIPs let their hair down to cheer and screech. The fashionably late found themselves standing in the aisles until accommodating organizers brought in more chairs.

Ar Rahman stole a million hearts in Dubai

It was a magical evening. A full moon night, a cricket stadium full of music lovers and a programme full of talented performers and hit songs. Fans expected a lot from A. R. Rahman and the music maestro lived up to those expectations at A. R. Rahman – Live in Concert held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Starting with his recent Bollywood hits Masti Ki Pathshala, Jashn-e-Bahara and Rubaroo, Rahman took the audience on a wonderful musical journey that included his current hits and old favorites from Bollywood and South Indian films.
There was no time wasted in announcing songs or singers as the show moved seamlessly from one number to the next. And there was no need either for announcements because the audience recognized every number as soon as the first note was played and greeted every song with rapturous applause.

Ar Rahman live in Dubai on April 18, 2008

And the long wait is over………….

Dubai is ready to dance to the rhythmic beatz of the great Ar rahman. Ar rahman is performing live in Dubai on April 18th 2008 at Sharjah International Cricket Stadium

Joining him on April 18,2008 in the Dubai concert would be some of the best talents in India, including Hariharan, Kailesh Kher, Chitra, Karthik, and Jodha Akbar fame Javed Ali. Renowned percussionist Sivamani with Naveen will also add the extravaganza to the show.

This premier musical extravaganza hopes to see over 30,000 people attending.

Sponsored by Eastern Masala, it will host a live show with A. R. Rahman for the third time in the UAE. The event is organised by the Dubai-based leading event organiser Oasis Promotions.
