Remix in your own style : Rahman's Ada

29 04 2008

Nokia has joined hands with AR Rahman and Big Music to give young Indians a chance to remix two leading tracks from A R Rahman’s forthcoming film – Ada…a way of life. This is the first time ever that the beacon of Indian music is allowing listeners to remix his compositions.

Ada is directed by Tanvir Ahmad and produced by Kazaan Ahmad. It stars debutant Ayaan Ahmad, Ayesha Jhulka, Nauheed Cyrusi, Rahul Roy and Milind Gunaji. As a part of this initiative, Nokia and Big Music will run a month-long contest where participants can remix the two Ada soundtracks namely Gulfisha and Gum Sum on Nokia’s newly launched Nokia XpressMusic mixer application. The Nokia XpressMusic mixer application is an online music mixer available on www.nokia.co.in/XpressMusic that has pre-loaded Ada tunes.

The winner, chosen by AR Rahman, will get an opportunity to spend one day with the music legend and compose the remix Ada soundtrack with him at his studio.

Elaborating on the concept, Rahman said, “India is full of talented young people and this contest is my way of unleashing their creativity. Nokia and Big Music have come up with a very interesting concept and I am looking forward to see how the listeners interpret my music and give it a new form.”

27 04 2008

This story is an extract from Yahoo Group. This is the most touching story I have read of a Rahmaniac. A drop of tear came out of eyes after reading this story. The story is about a Rahmaniac living in Dubai. His name is Rajith Ram Nivas. Now Rajith will talk to you.

” I’m a silent member in this group. I’m Rajith 29 years, married, working as a Sales executive in a Glass company here in Sharjah. I know that I’m too late to post this, but coz of my busy schedule in my job I couldn’t post this, sorry. I’m a crazy fan of Rahman Sir and always I listen his music with my MP3 player which I carry out always with me. I cant sit without his music for a minute. Mostly I will be in my car and I can play his CD. My wife always says with a smile that I love his music more than her. She also loves his music a lot. My big aim in my life was to meet Rahman sir. When Roja released I was studying in 8th std. I love those songs and I planned to meet him or to get a job there as a driver or something else. I know driving very well since very young age. Let me start the story….

I love performing in Chennai – Ar rahman

26 04 2008

Music maestro Ar.Rahman regaled audiences with a retrospective of his filmic repertoire at the Times Of India Changing Notes concert in Chennai, a city he says he “enjoys performing” in.”There was of course, the usual chaos before a concert over here. I love performing in Chennai. That’s where my roots are,” Rahman told IANS by phone from Chennai.

The Sunday event was organized to mark the launch of the Times of India’s Chennai edition.

“Basically, we chose to perform my film songs. That seemed to be the need of the hour. It was a rather special occasion. Besides me, there was my full orchestra, plus singers like Chitra,” he added.

A R Rahman's Jaane tu ya Jaane na ~ Music on May 20

26 04 2008

Aamir Khan has proved that he is one of the few talented directors from the industry who believes in perfection. It is learnt that Aamir who was known for his ghost direction for most of his movies, repeats history, yet again

Aamir’s next production Jaane Tu Yaa Jane Na marks the debut of his nephew Imraan Khan. However Mansoor Khan who was a recluse from the Bollywood circuit for several years, decided to make a come back when he came to know that his cousin Nauzhat’s son Imraan is making his debut in this film.

It can be recalled that Jane Tu Ya Jane Na was initially supposed to be produced by Jhamu Sughand but however things didn’t fall in place and Aamir came to rescue his nephew’s debut project. Aamir chose A R Rahman instead of Himesh Reshmmiya who was supposed to compose the music of Jane Tu Ya Jane Na.

Rahman rocked Chennai with Changing note

23 04 2008

Guitars, ghatams, tablas, trombones and trumpets played second fiddle to Ar Rahman on Sunday at the Times of India Changing Notes concert. Chennai’s most musical son performed for a 50,000-strong audience in his hometown after years. “I can’t remember the last time he performed live,” said one fan, keeping a wary eye on a policeman with a wicked-looking lathi. And Rahman himself started the show saying, “I haven’t heard sound and cheering like this in at least two years.”

Eager fans turned up on the St. George’s school grounds as early as 4 pm on Sunday evening, to “catch places” in the front rows. Shouts of “Rahman-Rah-Rah” filled the air and the excited audience waved posters, phootgraphs and sketches of Rahman. A bright green and red “Thank you Times of India” poster was waved around. Even the normally-staid VVIPs let their hair down to cheer and screech. The fashionably late found themselves standing in the aisles until accommodating organizers brought in more chairs.

Ar Rahman stole a million hearts in Dubai

22 04 2008

It was a magical evening. A full moon night, a cricket stadium full of music lovers and a programme full of talented performers and hit songs. Fans expected a lot from A. R. Rahman and the music maestro lived up to those expectations at A. R. Rahman – Live in Concert held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Starting with his recent Bollywood hits Masti Ki Pathshala, Jashn-e-Bahara and Rubaroo, Rahman took the audience on a wonderful musical journey that included his current hits and old favorites from Bollywood and South Indian films.
There was no time wasted in announcing songs or singers as the show moved seamlessly from one number to the next. And there was no need either for announcements because the audience recognized every number as soon as the first note was played and greeted every song with rapturous applause.

My soul mates saw Rahman….I am crying !

19 04 2008

And it was their day….Sometimes luck never comes our way…say my way. To see Rahman was one of my dreams in life. I really adore him. Only not because of his talent, but his simplicity. His beleif in God, his down to Earth character. Standing with Ar rahman is my friends. Close friends. Shiras, Thayyib and Shahbad. Guys really Jealous of you. I feel like crying. You got once in a life time opportunity. And he made your day. But when will be my day coming…… I have no idea. Sometimes I will have the luck to see him, but to be a member of a crew of his concert. That would be dream for me.

I got a message from Shahbad, late night. This was the message

“Da, most happiest moment in my life. I touched Rahman. He is just in front of me now. I took snapz. We are in stage co ordinators team. Now rehearsals going on… Missing you…….”

I got up from my bed. Couldn’t sleep. Got excited that my soul mates are going to see ARR. Became happy. Then suddenly I thought when will I see….I got stuck… I didn’t had an answer. I wish I was in Dubai. But no…I thought can I fly now…The answer was again no…..My sleep went off…Got up from bed. Read the message again and again… And started crying.

I am crying………and will keep on crying….

Change is about moving Forward – ARR

17 04 2008

Andrew Lloyd Webber, among others, likes to call him the ‘Mozart of Madras’. But A R Rahman defies definition. The prodigy who studied western classical at Trinity College of Music went on to redefine Bollywood scores. Having brought world sound to Indian cinema, he also put his version of contemporary Indian music – which blends techno, rap, latino, disco, reggae and ragas into a sumptuous potpourri – on the world map. He made Broadway swing to Bollywood Dreams, and composed stirring anthems for the stage version of The Lord of the Rings.

Through it all, Rahman has constantly reinvented himself. But then, so has the city which will always be home to him. Simultaneously centre of culture and commerce, traditional and cosmopolitan, Chennai blends the old and new with the same effortlessness as Rahman. Maybe the controlled chaos of Chennai’s constant flux has seeped into Rahman’s soul, and is reflected in his dazzling ouvre – always fresh, never predictable.

Rahman's new album after Vande Mataram

13 04 2008

Way back in the late 90s, A.R. Rahman’s audio album for Sony, ‘Vande Mataram’, rocked the nation. In fact, it rekindled the patriotic spirit of ‘Vande Mataram’ through its contemporary sounds and classy arrangements. The album also marked the first and sadly the last union of two maestros. Obviously we are referring to the man himself, A.R.Rahman and the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the legendary sufi qawwali singer, whose replacement has still not been found in the music world.

Coming back to our headlines, especially for those music lovers who are wondering as to when the composer of works like Roja, Dil Se, Taal, Lagaan……..to the recent Jodha Akbar, will come up with another album, after the stupendous success of ‘Vande Mataram’. Well, the long wait is more or less over and the good news is that music wizard A.R.Rahman is busy working on his next album. As per very reliable sources, almost a decade after ‘Vande Mataram’ , Rahman’s next album should be out later this year, more details of which are expected soon.

So, all you Rahmaniacs out there, keep watching this space for more!
