Rahman bags up the Filmfare Awards 2008

28 02 2008

It was Rahman’s night at the 53rd Annual Filmfare Award. The Mozart of Asia, nominated in three categories – Best Music, Best Background Score and Best Singer, walked away with two statues of the black lady (Best Music, Best Background Score) losing out the third one by a whisker.

It should be noted that the world renowned composer had just one release in 2007, director Mani Ratnam’s Guru which released at the very beginning of 2007. However, the film’s songs are still a rage with the masses, a proof of Rahman’s musical prowess and extravaganza.

As he received the award for Best Background Score, Rehman (who was presented the award by Bollywood’s famed director duo Abbas-Mustan) said, “The Filmfare Award is like an ornament for a lady; the more you have, it enhances the charm.”

Later on, he was back on stage once again, this time receiving the Best Music award for Guru from Bappi Lahiri and Poonam Dhillon. The award, his 21st, makes the Maestro the recipient with the most number of Filmfare awards. We, Rahmaniac.co.nr, wish the ‘Isai Puyal’ on his glorious triumph.

"I'm mad about Ice Creamz"- Ar rahman

25 02 2008

While everything about him and his music has been written and spoken about, his craze for ice creams, curd rice and his second home in England might take you by surprise. “I go mad about ice cream and curd rice” he spurts almost like an innocent 16 year old boy. He asserts that the day music becomes a chore for him. Everything will come to an end. “Fortunately my work never stagnates because I get to work with some of the best from the industry for whom experimenting and taking up challenges are a part of their game”.

But like all of us he needs time off work too. “At times when I want to unwind I need to detach myself from all of it. The problem is that I find music even in silence ! I go to dargah or the roof top of my house in Chennai and spend a couple of hours alone. Interestingly , he also loves spending time at his second home in England. That includes playing role of a husband and that of a father. “My wife loves my chopped tresses and so I am not growing it back. And my kids, they are all insomniacs like me. They don’t sleep till one in the morning and wake up very early” the Maestro adds.

Rahman plans Broadway ѕтỵŁε in India

13 02 2008

A.R. Rahman, making a self-confessed “U-turn” after his success with the “Lord of the Rings” musical on London’s West End, is now planning to bring a mega Broadway-style musical to India.”Yes, it will be very soon,” Rahman said at the Jet Airways-sponsored gala launch of the “Lord of the Rings” compact disc in London Monday.

Rahman said his plan is to create an original musical play – of the kind seen in London and New York – to be put up on an Indian stage, most probably in Haryana, near Delhi. The staging will hinge on plans by Indian events management and entertainment company Wizcraft to develop an entire town near Delhi, patterned after Las Vegas, Rahman told IANS in an interview.

“There will be a big theater, that’s all good news. It’s good to see people opening up,” he said.

Although Rahman is keeping his plans tightly wrapped, it is aimed at linking Indian tourism with a modern musical stage, just as London’s West End attracts millions of international tourists.

“A lot of things are too early to say, let’s hope for the best. I’ve been given great respect in India. It’s time for me to give back,” he said in the interview.

His biggest projects at the moment are his music production company K.M. Music and a music school that he launched in Chennai on his birthday, Jan 6.

Rediff chat with Rahman

12 02 2008

Still after the concert in Chennai, everyone thought that Ar rahman wont attend the Live chat program organized by rediff.com. But no — he was upbeat, obviously in a great frame of mind, when he appeared on Rediff chat. During his interaction with fans worldwide, there was no sign of impatience, no indication that his mind was on other things — though he had, after the chat, to complete work on some remixes and catch a flight to London for the music release of Lord Of The Rings.

During the chat, Rahman came up with an interesting story about Michelangelo.

It seems that he was painting beautiful pictures at the back of the church. People told him you are a fool because you are not painting in the front where people can appreciate your work. The answer was: I do my work for God. I think he can watch it anywhere. I thought it was a brilliant answer because everything doesn’t need to have instant appreciation. Even if one of you have appreciated those fine nuances, that is enough for me.” rahman added.

Rahman’s view towards life is “Love makes the heart lighter and makes you see things objectively. Hate darkens you and makes you heavy at heart and uneasy. Make a choice. God bless.”

He also added that he never intentionally neglect people, but due to overwhelming queue in his work, it might seem so. “I have all of you in my prayers and love you all.” Mozart became speechless on his fans

ARR read most of the fans questions and just picked and choose the ones he felt like answering due to lack of time. He thanked all his for taking their time for writing all those beautiful kind words.

When Rahman sleeps…….

5 02 2008

Can you imagine what will be rahman dreaming in his sleep. It is all about Music, Music and Music. In an interview organized by Radio Fm, Raihana, Rahman’s sister shared some interesting tidbits of his brother.

Raihanna said “It seems like, even when ARR sleeps, you can notice at times, his foot doing some tapping’s of some rhythms. I used to feel that he is not sleeping, but in fact that happens when he is actually sleeping”.

This goes to show that even in subconscious stage , ARR is just thinking of music. The tune of Rang de Basanti “Tu bin bataye” came in Rahman’s sleep and he suddenly woke up and moved to his studio and just recorded the same. Later this song won numerous awards including ” Best song of the Year “.

Sir you are absolutely great !

Lord of the Rings Musical ~ Next Big Venture

4 02 2008

Rahman sees this album as his big international leap. “Every song has a minimum of 200 musicians and technicians involved in it. Huge choirs and orchestras were brought into play. We recorded the album in London and mixed it in my studio at Chennai. The whole crew came down from all over the world.” All the songs are in English and in Elvish…the language of The Lord Of The Rings. “I had lots of help from fellow musicians like Christopher Nightingale. It took me three years to do the album.”

Looking back, Rahman is not the least content with his achievements. “It’s never enough,” he rued. “Music is my only therapy. There’re so many awful things happening in the world. I wish I could heal the world. My peace anthems like Vande Mataram and Pray For Me, Brother are a small candle light in the storm. But you never know which candle will light a thousand other candles.”
